Kareela is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. == History == Kareela was the first mixed-use estate developed by Stockland, developed in 1953. The estate was originally called Sylvan Headland. Sylvan Headland changed to Kareela after the estate opened. Kareela is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘place of trees and water’ or alternatively ‘south wind’ or ‘wind rider’. The name for the suburb was approved by the Geographical Names Board in 1968. Most of the streets in Kareela are named after outright winners and line-honours winners of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race between 1945 and 1970. == Commercial area == Kareela had a small shopping centre, which as of 2013, has undergone major redevelopments. Formerly Kareela Shopping Centre; Kareela Village is a 14 million dollar project which was completed in 2015. The redevelopment includes the addition of specialty shops such as travel agent, medical centre, cafes, fashion shops, restaurants, fruitier, beauty & hair salons plus an early childhood learning centre and homewares as well as above and underground parking.
We bought and moved into our new home in the middle of 2023 and we knew wanted to make some updates to it. I was recommended Dura Group from a friend and we are over the moon with the work they have done. We wanted to have a media/feature wall in our living room as it was just a plain space. Mark who is the owner at Dura Group came round, listened to our ideas and we also gave him some pictures of ideas we liked. He talked us through everything and gave us samples of the materials and colours we could choose from. We picked the design and materials we wanted and Mark’s team turned it into reality. It looks even better than the picture idea we found. The team completed the work in 1 day and everything was made to measure. Mark is so attentive, professional and kind. He kept us updated every step of the way with how the making of the cabinet was going. We absolutely love our new media wall! It has added sophistication and elegance to our lounge. Thank you to Mark and the whole team. They are extremely good at what they do. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
