At David Road in Barden Ridge, we carried out a two-stage renovation that added a new first floor to an existing Sutherland Shire home and fully renovated the ground floor beneath it. We built two master suites upstairs, each with its own walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, then reconfigured the ground floor around three renovated bathrooms finished in floor-to-ceiling marble. It’s now a modern family home built for both luxury and everyday living, with a single considered material and finish palette carried from the new upstairs suites right through to the renovated kitchen and bathrooms below.

The Brief

David Road combined two jobs in one: a first-floor addition and a full ground-floor renovation, delivered as a two-stage project. Dura Group treated it as a large-scale transformation, built around a modern family home that balances luxury, functionality and timeless design while making the most of the home’s existing footprint, without asking the homeowners to compromise on quality along the way. The scope spanned both new-build and renovation work, pairing private new upstairs living spaces with fully reworked, marble-finished bathrooms on the level below.

Upstairs, the new first floor added two spacious master suites, each complete with its own walk-in wardrobe and luxury ensuite. Downstairs, our team completely reconfigured the existing layout to create a more practical flow for family living, and carried out three full bathroom renovations finished with floor-to-ceiling marble tiles and premium fixtures throughout.

Structural Work

Significant structural steel beams went into the first-floor addition at David Road, supporting the new upper level and creating the expansive open-plan living areas the homeowners had originally envisioned. Partway through the build, we also uncovered termite damage and carried out the remediation needed before work could continue. The open-plan kitchen at David Road pairs Smartstone Taj Mahal benchtops with Polytec Batten Oak cabinetry, and the three bathrooms are finished in floor-to-ceiling marble with Meir Lustre Bronze tapware. In the kitchen, Smartstone Taj Mahal surfaces meet Polytec Batten Oak cabinetry, giving the main living space a warm, contemporary look that sets the tone for the rest of the home. The same batten-profile joinery carries texture and architectural interest through the main living areas, while a softer Polytec Boston Oak was chosen for the custom walk-in wardrobes, giving the private spaces a more refined finish. Together, the two timber finishes tie the whole home together, from the kitchen bench through to the wardrobes upstairs.

Each of the three bathrooms was individually designed for a spa-like feel, with floor-to-ceiling marble tiles, premium Meir Lustre Bronze tapware and finishes selected to complement the home’s warm material palette. The new master ensuites feel like a private retreat, and the custom walk-in wardrobes maximise storage without giving up any style.

Architectural lighting runs throughout David Road, highlighting the home’s custom joinery and lifting the everyday feel of each room. Integrated LED strip lighting inside the walk-in wardrobes highlights the custom joinery too, giving the private spaces a more luxurious feel.
